For many years, when Camp ended each summer we had to say our good-byes to our campers not knowing if or when we would see them again. BUT NOT ANY MORE!! Thanks to the addition of our Mentoring Club Program, Royal Family KIDS has the opportunity to impact our campers from September through May as well!
Campers who apply and are accepted to the program are matched with a 1:1 adult mentor who they are familiar with from their week at camp. They meet with their mentor a minimum of 4 hours monthly beginning in September and ending in May. This allows for quality time to build relationships, continue making positive memories and provide fun and safe experiences with an adult who is focused on positively affirming and supporting the camper.
In addition, we hold monthly Club meetings attended by all the participating campers and mentors where campers can reconnect with staff members and fellow campers. These meetings consist of similar activities enjoyed at camp including familiar music, games and activities and stories, dramas and puppet shows. The curriculum focus is to empower each camper with tools to help them succeed, provide opportunities to spend quality time with fellow campers and model appropriate behaviors in a safe and supportive environment.
Statistics support 1:1 mentoring as an effective deterrent to undesirable behavior and poor choices. It is a privilege to support these children and assist them in realizing their value.
